Top 7 Books on Blogging for Beginners

Are you new to blogging?

Whether you’ve already started a blog or you haven’t yet (but really want to), you’re in the right place.

Before I share with you some of the best books out there for beginning bloggers, let me ask you a question…

Were you ever good at a sport, a musical instrument, or a game?

When I was little, I started playing chess with my dad, my uncle, and some of my friends. I don’t remember being that good, but I won every once in a while.

Compared to the average beginner, I had a little bit of skill. So, I decided to try playing in a chess tournament.

Oh boy, that was naive of me. I was wiped out in seconds. The people playing in the tournament were SO GOOD. I could barley make a few moves, before they would checkmate me.

Frustrated, I complained to one of my older friends, “They’re so smart! Wow. They must just be really brainy. I wish I was that smart.”

He smiled and pointed at one of the players who was hunched over a book, reading. I slowly walked by and glanced at the title.

It was a book on chess strategy. It went through different ways to checkmate opponents, common defenses, and how to anticipate your opponent’s strategy.

That day I realized that these kids weren’t smarter than me. They were just going into the game with a specific strategy. That’s why they were winning so easily.

Over the next few weeks, I started to read articles on chess strategy, and my game dramatically improved. I started to win against my friends and family members. It was awesome.

I share this story with you to highlight the POWER of education. With the right strategies, tactics, and tools in your hand, you can easily succeed in your endeavors.

If you invest in your own education, it will all pay off when you become a full-time blogger.

1. ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income

Darren Rowse was the first person that I learned from when I was getting started with my very first blog.

His book and education goes in-depth into how to choose a blog, set up the marketing, and promote it.

As a six figure blogger, Darren is certainly qualified to teach about the subject of blogging, having built up multiple ones himself.

This is a good book to get started if you’ve never started a blog before and are looking for a bit of guidance. It was co-written with another blogger.

2. How To Blog For Profit: Without Selling Your Soul

A common frustration that I hear from bloggers is that they want to stay true to their own values when starting a business. One of those values could be making money without selling their soul.

For many entrepreneurs, business is a dog eat dog world, but it doesn’t have to be. You CAN earn an income doing what you love. You don’t have to become a corporate sellout.

This book teaches you how to start and grow your blog without falling into the trap of comparing yourself to other full-time bloggers.

It’s a good companion to other guides, as it also talks about how to improve your productivity and work smarter instead of harder.

3. Blogging For Beginners: Work from Home, Travel the World, Provide for Your Family

After becoming a full-time blogger, I decided that I wanted to reveal the step-by-step strategy that I used to set up my blog, get traffic, grow a raving audience of fans, and earn passive income.

I wrote this book for you, knowing that as a beginner, you’re not likely to enjoy the technical aspects of setting up a website. You probably don’t wanna figure it all out. You just want to write!

In my book, Blogging for Beginners, you’ll get a proven strategy for setting up a profitable blog so that you can spend your time how you’d like.

You’ll be able to work from home, take trips around the world, and rest assured, knowing that your family is taken care of.

4. How To Make Money Blogging

This book was written by a veteran blogger, Bob Lotich, who founded ChristianPF.com. Using his firsthand experience, Lotich walks you through the basics of making money with blogging.

You’ll learn about how to earn income, increase your subscribers, get SEO traffic, and some of the tools that you can use to make it all easier.

Overall, this book has gotten a lot of great reviews. Some of the negative ones talk about how there is too much emphasis on selling advertisement space as opposed to other monetization methods.

There are many teachers in the blogging industry that all provide different perspectives on how to create a successful blog. This book gives you a strategy that worked for the author.

5. Blogging All-in-One For Dummies

I’m not gonna lie, I really don’t like the “for dummies” series of books. Usually, I’ve found that they aren’t very helpful. But, that could just be the ones I picked up.

Nonetheless, this book and others in the for dummies series has been helpful for other readers, so I’m recommending it in this list.

As you go through this book, you’ll learn about how to launch and grow a blog so that you can join the blogosphere.

It’s been reviewed as being easy to read and a good resource for beginner or intermediate bloggers.

Finally, this book covers niche topics like microblogging, which you can do on websites like Twitter.

6. Lifestyle Blogging Basics

This book has a bit of a different take from some of the others on this list. Along with covering how to discover your niche and what to write about, Laura Lynn also explains how to network with brands in your industry.

You’ll learn how to put together your own media kit, the importance of quality design, why you need high resolution photos, and more.

If you’re looking to start a blog in the lifestyle or fashion niche, I think this book could be particularly helpful for you.

Reviewers have said that this book is easy to read, sincere, and transparent.

7. Blog, Inc: Blogging for Passion, Profit, and to Create Community

Lastly, there is the book Blog, Inc: Blogging for Passion, Profit, and to Create Community. This is the classic blogging 101 book that will get a beginner up to speed.

Reviewers have stated that it gave them a lot of inspiration when it came to their own blog.

They were able to take away practical strategies and things that they can do to improve their work.

On the negative side, some of the information has been reported as outdated, but it does not subtract from the effectiveness of the overall book.
