Podcasting Equipment for Beginners

I decided to put together a YouTube video showing you my podcasting setup! This equipment has enabled over 80,000 downloads across more than 100 shows. I’ve also racked up more than 100 positive reviews in iTunes.

After you watch the video, I’ve included the links to my equipment down below. If you’re a beginner, you don’t need fancy equipment to get started setting up a podcast. You just need to get hosting, submit your podcast to iTunes, and you’re ready to rock and roll!

Okay, so here’s the equipment I use…

You really only need a laptop, the microphone, and a recording program. If you want to have guests on the program, you can use skype or Zencastr.

I think that your voice, marketing, and storytelling abilities matter far more than your equipment. If you take a look at the top podcasters, they all have different equipment. Some people use headphone style microphones, others use high tech ones.

I’m willing to listen to an amateur-sounding podcast if there are great stories or if the information is relevant to me. I’m not willing to listen to a high quality podcast if the host doesn’t share great information or compelling stories.

Think of it this way… everyone’s business is built off of some kind of competitive advantage. How easy is it for someone to simply buy the best equipment out there? It’s pretty easy.

However, how hard is it for someone to tell amazing stories that move you emotionally. How hard is it to put in the time to come across warm, confident, and authentic on air? Pretty damn hard.

Of course, when starting a new podcast, your first thoughts should be about the target market and what value you’re going to be delivering. The next thought though should be how you’re going to grow as a host of the podcast.

If you don’t believe me, watch the YouTube video down below where I show EXACTLY how my voice has changed since starting my podcast.

Tell me that I don’t sound different!

It’s remarkable how you can transform your voice over time. I think that I sound far more confident now a days.

I’m also much better at identifying when to ask a guest further questions to bring out stories and emotions that the listeners will love.
