5 Best Web Hosts for Blogs and Bloggers

I’ve been blogging since 2007. I started out with a typical wordpress.com subdomain and eventually purchased my own domain and hosting (here’s my story).

I now run several blogs, including this one, and two online forums. I’ve had the chance to experience a lot of different hosting providers over the years. Some good and some really bad.

If you’re going to be setting up a new blog, I highly recommend using wordpress as your backend CMS (content management system). You could use a website design tool like SquareSpace, but it doesn’t offer the same level of control and extensive plugins and themes.

Here’s my list of the top web hosting providers for bloggers.

1. Bluehost

bluehost

Yes, this is what I use on this blog and my other websites. There are a few different reasons that I like Bluehost. First of all, they usually have some kind of great discount for newcomers, which is always attractive. Second, I found it super easy to set up a wordpress-based site with their one click wordpress install feature. Third, there are a lot of great integrations and tools, like Cloudflare, which speeds up your site and is free!

Most importantly, I’ve always had a good experience with their support team. There were a few times in the past several years where I was ripping my hair out and the support team was always patient, kind, and understanding. All of the issues I’ve ever had were eventually resolved.

2. HostGator

HostGator is another very popular choice among bloggers. Similar to Bluehost, they have wordpress hosting, VPS hosting, and dedicated hosting. They are also similar in price to Bluehost.

When I was choosing a web host for my blog, it was very difficult to pick between HostGator and Bluehost. Quite honestly, I’d recommend checking out both services and seeing which appeals to your needs more.

3. SiteGround

SiteGround is at the top of many web hosting review lists. Although I have not personally used them, they’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback around the web.

They offer wordpress, joomla, and drupal hosting, along with strong customer service and support. Finally, their prices are comparable to the two above mentioned hosting providers.

4. InMotion

Coming in hot is InMotion hosting, another popular web hosting choice among bloggers and small businesses. The company offers web design services, domain purchasing, hosting tools, and more.

Along with a money-back guarantee, this provider has racked up some good reviews online and developed a good reputation for being a leader in this crowded space.

5. DreamHost

Finally, no list would be complete without DreamHost, one of the older hosting companies in this area. They actually started before the dot com boom. That’s pretty crazy.

Similar to some of the other companies mentioned in this list, they offer managed wordpress hosting, along with shared hosting. They also claim that they’ll “credit you a day’s service for every hour of interrupted service.” I’d take a look a them and see if they meet your needs!

Thoughts on choosing a provider

This is a very personal decision, but for me, I don’t care about cheap web hosting. I did when I was young, in my early teens, and setting up my first websites. However, since then, I’ve come to appreciate reliability and customer service above all else.

I hope this list helps you make your decision! Don’t forget to share what website you’re creating in a comment below :).
